My name is Janus
Christian Krarup. I'm 27 years old and study biochemistry at the University of Copenhagen.
I live in Gentofte, just a couple of miles north of Copenhagen,
Denmark.
I am currently working on my masters thesis at Novo Nordisk A/S. The field of biochemistry that I specialize in is protein chemistry.
Proteins are a part of all living organisms and performs a wide range of tasks - structural, enzymatic and as messengers. My thesis concerns the purification and characterization of histone proteins. Histone proteins are used to wind up and organize the DNA strands inside the cell nucleus. A human cell nucleus is only a few micrometers in diameter, yet it contains 6 billion base pairs, which if stretched out would be more than 2 meters long !!! Solving this "storage problem" would be impossible if not for the histone proteins.
